Doorway Pages – The Facts
Doorway pages have become big players in today’s search engine placement stakes. Now almost every search you do on a competitive keyword or phrase will invariably yield several doorway pages vying for a top 20 placement.

What is a ‘Doorway Page’?
So what exactly is a doorway page? A doorway page (often commonly called a bridge page or entry page but also referred to as a portal page, pointer page, jump page, gateway page, etc.) is simply a page designed to rank well for a specific keyword search often tweaked for a specific search engine. Achieving such a high ranking significantly increases the traffic a web site will generate thus justifying the work involved in the creation and optimizing of the doorway page.

Doorway Page Construction

The doorway page is designed specifically to look good to the search engine targeted and therefore in most cases little thought is given to the actual browser that will see the page content. This is not normally a handicap as most doorway pages are designed to act as a ‘portal’, ‘bridge’, or ‘doorway’ to your main site by use of a clickable link and/or a ‘META refresh’ tag (hence the name doorway page and it’s generics). By using a high refresh rate a browser may even be unaware that the original doorway page existed at all. However in an effort to curb the use of certain spamming techniques, many search engines have deemed any page that uses a META refresh as spam and have penalized or banned them accordingly.

Does This Mean Doorway Pages Are Spam?

Not at all. There are certain circumstances where, if you want to be found successfully on the search engines, you will need to build a doorway page to overcome certain design constraints. This is due to the limitations search engines have with regards to spidering pages generated dynamically (such as CGI, PHP pages etc.) or if your site relies heavily on the use of frames or Java Script.

It is a well-known fact that search engines have a notorious problem with framed sites and doorway pages represent a logical and, in the main, necessary solution.

However, if you are considering creating such pages beware. All search engines take a dim view of ‘inappropriate’ use of doorway pages such as optimizing a doorway page for keywords that have no relevance to the page they are pointed to. Such techniques have been used heavily on topical keywords of the day in an all-out effort to attract traffic.

Tricking the browser into visiting your site is rarely a good idea. Consider how you feel when you arrive at a likely looking site only to find that its content is so unconnected to your search query that the only explanation is the use of trickery.

There you are searching for information for that all-important sales seminar you are hosting and you are slyly redirected to an online sports shop or worse. Does it make you feel like reaching for your credit card? Hardly. Adopting such techniques will win you few friends and will, in all probability, get you excluded from the search engines, and rightly so.

Used responsibly doorway pages can make a big difference to the number of visitors your site attracts and therefore your online profitability.

So How Do You Create Your Own Doorway Pages?

Your first step is to decide upon the exact keyword phrase you wish to target. But before we get into this you are going to need help in creating and optimizing your doorway pages.  Without a doubt the easiest way to create effective doorway pages is using Dynamic submission 2000 Click here to download a 30 day free trial of this software to get you started.  You can then read the rest of this article while it's downloading in the background.

Choose your keyword phases extremely carefully. Very often you will be better off creating doorway pages for top secondary keyword phases rather than dominant ones i.e. search terms that are less popular or less main stream. You are likely to receive just as much qualified traffic by targeting a couple of good secondary keyword phases, as you will from a single dominant one. Plus, with less competition, there is the added benefit of less work involved in optimizing your doorway page and in keeping it at the top.

This is the major bug bear with the creation of doorway pages.  Optimizing your code, submitting your page, checking your placement then re-optimising and resubmitting.  It can become a vicious circle which is why this tactic is not used more readily.

This is where our software program Submission 2000 comes into play, the one you are downloading know.  (You are downloading it aren't you?  Click here if you forgot).  Submission 2000 will practically write your doorway pages for you.  Not only that but it will submit them and check their positioning within the search engines too. Isn't that GREAT ?
